How was your January? Hope you’ve had a good start to the year and are looking forward to things ahead. We certainly are and here at Simply Be we’ve got some very exciting plans in the pipeline so keep your eyes and ears peeled!
But first things first, let’s look back and see what the month of January brought us, as we run through our highlights!
Spring has arrived, well technically it has, it still feels like winter in good old Blighty as we’ve yet to feel the warmth of the spring months, however we haven’t lost all hope and our floral dress & colourful skirts are ready and raring to go the moment the temperature rises (even just a little please!)
Hope you all had a lovely Easter, what did you get up to? We’re back in April with our fave moments from the past month, so if you missed out, listen up!
In March we celebrated a triple birthday, with three of our stores first birthday taking place! Teesside, Doncaster and Leicester all turned one so we had a party in store with plenty of games, competitions and discounts.
Hope you all had a lovely start to the year. We’ve got through the cold, snow and winter blues of January and we’ve made it to the other side – hurray! (Now there’s only one month ’til we begin the start of spring)
Lots of things have been happening this past month, so if you missed any of it, here’s a run down of our favourites.
We were very proud to announce that Simply Be are sponsors of The Official British Plus Size Fashion Weekend, taking place in London on February 15th and 16th during London Fashion Week. Remi Ray (pictured below) of Trapped in a Skinny World partnered with Evolve magazine to organise this amazing event, celebrating the curves of the UK and Europe. We’ll be right in on the action so keep your eyes peeled for more on this, in our blog update.
The gorgeous plus size model Robyn Lawley has again been in the news to discuss her weight issues. She criticizes the industry for catering to thin models; “It is crazy to make me have to change my body to fit fashion. Fashion should be changed to shape people’s bodies. If I was a designer, I would definitely pick a range of different sized girls.” Read the full story here.
We absolutely adore it, check out some of these smokin’ hot shots featuring our gorgeous model Laura.
This month we welcomed a new member to the Simply Be family, Bea! She is our cute cartoon illustrated by the very talented Lucy, check out her blog Cartoon Fatshion. We had a Facebook poll to decide on the name and from the long list of suggestions, Bea was the favourite, picked by creator Lucy. Throughout the season Bea will be gracing us with her presence, so keep an eye out for her!
We love all the pictures you guys send in wearing our Simply Be clothes. Here are two fabulous bloggers working their Simply be wardrobe in style.
First up we have the lovely Hanna from The Wardrobe Challenge. Braving the January snow she steps out in our new Galaxy Print Dress. This high low hem style tie-dye print dress works wonders dressed up or down. Team it with heels and a blazer for an evening look, or rock it like Hanna in a dark leather jacket!
We love metallics and this month saw Bethany from My Arched Eyebrow review our radiant new Joanna Hope biker style jacket. In metallic gold she lets her jacket do the talking, teaming it with a pastel top and black jeans. Go ahead and make a statement…

This gorgeous blue prom dress, won the Facebook votes back in August and is now available to buy online! We came across this interesting article from blogger Chastity Garner Valentinewho questions why plus size women are always featured naked. She says: “The mainstream magazines deliver fully nude layouts of plus-size women. While, I am pleased that plus-size women are not being ignored, I do question, why we can’t have fancy editorials with head-to-toe styling too.” One of the reasons she gives, is that ‘magazines don’t care about plus-size fashion’ and want to gain as much attention as possible. What are you thoughts on this? Read the full article here.
Also in the news this month, were reports that having more plus size models could change women’s ‘obsessions with thin bodies’. Studies from Durham University were carried out on over 100 women to find out how body image is being perceived. The results showed more exposure to a particular type of body, be it slim or ‘plus size’ was preferred, therefore it shows the influence the media can have by over-exposing and glamourising super slim bodies. Find out more here.
