Sexy, chic and slimming…long live the LBD! First heralded as the future of figure-flattering fashion way back in the 1920s, the Little Black Dress has become a must-have item for style-savvy ladies the world over.
What started as a sketch of a simple yet elegant, black, long sleeve dress by none other than Coco Chanel, has become a century-long obsession with the LBD. At the time, Vogue predicted that the style would become a uniform for fashion conscious females; a forecast which proved entirely accurate. But, with the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe advocating the look, it’s hardly surprising that the LBD became (and remains) such a firm wardrobe favourite.
One LBD. Three ways to wear.
In recognition of the versatility, longevity and altogether fabulousness of this sleek and subtle number, we bring you three very different outfits using one of our favourite LBDs from the Simply Be collection…
Crush on velvet with this lush LBD paired with rough-and-ready boots and accessories for instant off-duty cool.
While spring and summer are seen as the traditional seasons to get wed, winter nuptials have become increasingly popular among brides and grooms-to-be. Saying ‘I do’ in the depths of winter might not come with hair-friendly weather but it certainly has its charm. It’s cheaper for one thing, allowing engaged couples to cut down their budget by a whopping quarter. Plus, it’s soooo romantic at this time of year…roaring fires, blankets of snow, the magic of Christmas…dreamy!
Be the best dressed guest
If you’ve been invited to a winter wedding you may already know that finding cold-weather occasion wear isn’t always easy. While summer soirees call for pretty pastels and gorgeous florals, winter weddings are a different kettle of fish, looking instead to darker tones and grown-up prints. It certainly isn’t a case of taking your trusty summer dress and throwing on a pair of tights and a layer or two.
And we’ve all heard the etiquette around colour; white/ivory is reserved for the bride and black is best avoided for daytime dos. But we’re not complete sticklers to the rules! We think black with a dash of colour can be fabulously sophisticated in winter, and there’s no harm in adding creamy touches with light shoes and accessories.
The best palettes to pick from for this time of year are the wintery hues of plum, forest green and midnight blue. Add some razzle dazzle to these pared-down tones with punchy prints, dazzling embellishments and party-perfect heels.
Ladies, it’s time to pack away those pretty summer pastels and give your wardrobe an autumn/winter overhaul with the very berry trend.
This season, we look to the rich berry palette for easy-to-wear style that works from morning til night. Bursting with the sultry tones of rich wine reds, burgundy and oxblood, there’s a gorgeous spectrum of purples and reds to explore when it comes to choosing your favourite shade. Take inspiration from those bottles of red knocking around the kitchen and reach for the dark grape tones of Claret and Bordeaux, or add playful pops of indigo and violet to your winter rotation.
There are so many ways to get the berry buzz. First up, make sure you’re just as on trend when you’re in the buff by picking lingerie from the plum palette. There’s no better way to pop your berry cherry than with a cheeky nod to the trend courtesy of your undies. This way, you can be sure your bra straps will coordinate perfectly with dark red outer garments and cups won’t show through the fabric.
We do love the party season but there’s nothing worse than party outfit panic! You know, when you end up leaving it until a day or two before your party to get your outfit – and then you can’t find anything in the shops! Disaster!
We’d recommend getting your outfit organised early. Then when party time comes around you can just reach coolly into your wardrobe and pick out that gorgeous dress that’s been waiting for you.
There are lots of different styles you could go for this year – we’ve picked out some of our favourites.
Black is always a classic choice. Choose a statement dress and then edgy it up with lashings of black eyeliner. If you want to go blacker than black, velvet is the natural choice – and it feels so slinky too!
Versatility is the life-blood of fashion, so we’ve created a dress that you can wear 5 different ways! It’s a must-have for the party season – just add shoes and accessories and you’ve got every night out covered!
And to celebrate the launch of our new multiway dress, we’re giving one lucky customer the chance to win it in Amethyst! So follow the instructions below and we could make all your party wishes come true!
