With a selective nod to SS14’s primmest, prettiest looks, Vanity Fair takes cues from high society’s finest to deliver a chic, floral infused edit. Cut in soft feminine shapes and painted in saccharine shades, look to ladylike separates, candied pastels and garden variety graphics for this upper-crust get-up. But it’s not all super serious sophistication; add a little fun to the prim parade with conversational prints and unexpected fabrics…
We’ve taken some of our favourite pieces from the Vanity Fair lookbook and styled four gorgeous outfits to see you from spring soiree to high tea!
In a palette good enough to eat, this ice cream coloured collection gives the ol’ pencil skirt and smart shirt combo a sweet shakeup. A stylish evening look, pair this statement set with a blazer and switch your clutch for a grown up tote for work-worthy in a flash.
Every now and then, we all find ourselves in a bit of a sticky style spot; those days where you can’t make head nor tail of the latest trend, you’re in a panic over what to wear for that party, and your wardrobe just isn’t making any sense. We’ve made it our mission to solve those tricky style dilemmas so you can enjoy doing what you do best: looking and feeling utterly fabulous…
Style Dilemma No. 1
I can’t afford a brand new wardrobe for spring; what three essential items should I invest in to stay stylish through the new season?
To make a fashionable impact without stretching the purse strings, look to a couple of classic spring pieces and throw in a directional trend for good measure. With spring weather typically difficult to predict, a versatile cover-up should be your first port of call. Make it a mac and you’ve got yourself a timeless, light and oh-so chic coat that will see you through what’s left of winter and well into spring in style.
Next up, your precious pennies will be well spent on another spring favourite: florals. While flower prints can be found growing all over trousers, shirts and tees, the piece you’ll get the most wear out of is a floral dress. Simply style with flats and a blazer in the day and switch to heels and glam accessories come nightfall. It’s the perfect piece to see you through the transitional weeks too; tights on for wintery days, tights off come summer!
For your final piece, inject a little high fashion into your new season wardrobe with the couture doll trend. Inspired by the pretty, candy-coloured looks of the SS14 catwalk, a sweet separate in the shape of a light blouse will earn you some serious style points.
Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking. Yes, Miranda Priestley, but what about florals in winter? And ditsy daisy florals at that? Not just for school fields in springtime, we’re half crazy for darling daisy print this season.
While we can’t tell you what the weather will be doing next week (though we’ll take a wild guess at rain), we can predict the fab fashions that we’ll all be wearing next season. So join us as we gaze into the not-too-distant-future and forecast what 2014’s wardrobe will look like…
Along with slightly more hair-friendly weather (please!), our crystal ball tells us that spring will bring some very exciting new trends, one or two fresh takes on last year’s looks, and a sprinkling of seasonal style favourites (we’re looking at you, florals). First up…
‘50s femininity takes the reigns with this soft, sugary trend in sweet sorbet shades. Saccharine from the outset, this look is not without its sex appeal thanks to form flaunting lines.
Pick from the pastel palette, choose shapes that follow your curves and anchor the look with key denim pieces.
