Frequently Asked Bra Questions

  • How many bras should I own? The number of bras you should own is a matter of personal preference, but some recommend having at least four. You should have a variety of styles and colours to cover different outfits, and you should give your bras a break so the elastic can readjust.

  • How do I find my bra size? Your bra size is determined by your band size and cup size. The band size indicates your ribcage size, and the cup size indicates your bust size. If you need to go up in band size, you should go down in cup size, and vice versa. Use our bra fitting guide for help.

  • How long do bras last? Bras typically last six to twelve months, but this can vary depending on factors like how you care for them, how often you wear them, and your lifestyle.

  • Do I need to wear a bra? Wearing a bra is a personal choice. Bras can help prevent your breasts from jiggling around, and they can make you feel more comfortable and supported. Check out our sports bras for ultimate support if you're active.

  • How do you tell if a bra fits well? If your breast is squeezing out over the top or there's space between your breast and the cup, your bra does not fit properly. Another way to check is how the gore sits on your chest (the piece that connects both cups and sits in the centre of your chest) If it sits flat on your skin, you have a good fit. If it's pulling away, you're probably in the wrong size.

  • Why does my bra ride up and the straps dig into my skin? If the band is riding up, it's likely too large. The under band, not the straps, should do the majority of the support work. If you're having fit issues, the first thing you should try is going down a band size and up a cup. This formula adjustment often fixes this issue.

  • How often do I really need to be replacing my bras? Larger cup bras will need to be replaced more often due to the support needed and should be replaced every six to nine months to keep that optimum support. Smaller cup bras that need less support should be replaced every eighteen months. When you first get a bra it should fit snug on the loosest hook and then over time take it in as the band stretches with wear and washing.

  • How often should you wash your bra? You should wash your bra after 3 or 4 wears. Sweat and oils from our skin can actually damage your bra so make sure you wash it regularly. Also always read the washing instruction before you wash. Some bras are fine to machine wash but others will need to be hand-washed as underwires can warp in the machine, which can cause them to poke through the fabric. For hand washing, use cold water in a clean sink.

  • What is a sister bra size? A sister size is another size with the same cup volume. An example of a sister size is where you go up a band size and down a cup size. If you are a 36D you may also be able to wear a 34DD. So why would you wear a sister size? It might be that your true size just doesn't quite feel right. Trying a sister size might allow you to feel more comfortable without compromising on fit or shape. Sister sizes also allow you more choice and flexibility.

  • What colour bra should I wear under white clothing? Red bras can work well under white clothing because they absorb light. You can also try neutral or nude bras.
